Pep Guardiola was surprised with match referee Simon Hooper’s decision during the stoppage time while Jack Grealish was through on goal during Manchester City’s six-goal draw against Tottenham at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Grealish scored an 81st-minute goal which seemed to have secured victory for the European champions but Dejan Kulusevski’s 90th minute header levelled the game once again.
However, in the 94th minute, during Man City’s counter-attack, Erling Haaland was fouled but the Norwegian got up quickly and played a lobbed pass to Grealish who was through on goal.
As the English forward was about to reach the box, Hooper, who had first allowed the advantage, stopped the play due to the earlier foul on Haaland. Man City players were furious as they were denied a clear shot on win and Guardiola was no different as he, too, was surprised by the decision.
"I make mistakes, the players make mistakes," Guardiola said. "It surprised me because when Erling went down if you whistle then it's fine but when he stands up and continues and the ref made the gesture to play on, then after he makes the pass he stops the game.
"After (Haaland) made the pass he stopped the game. I don't want to criticise them. In the touchline sometimes I lose my mind, my gesture was not proper.
"I would say we didn't draw for that. They are happy, Tottenham for the point. We are less happy but the performance is similar to what we have done lately."
Man City now sit third in the league with 30 points in 14 matches and are winless in their last three games, conceding a total of eight goals and scoring as many.
"The performance was quite similar to what we have done lately," Guardiola added. "The people say you're concerned about goals you concede of course but the chances we concede, no.
"It's not the first time we are in this situation where we are playing good but results don't come."
